7MM PRC

Oct 26, 2022 | Christensen Arms

Christensen Arms is proud to offer a wide selection of our firearms in the groundbreaking new cartridge from Hornady – 7mm PRC. Get a look behind the curtain at why 7mm PRC was developed in this Hornady guest blog entry.

“As with any new cartridge development, the fundamental question that must be answered is ‘why’. There are many great cartridges already in existence, so creating a new one must pick up where the others leave off. A new cartridge must solve a problem. The 7mm Precision Rifle Cartridge does just that.

It is the first truly modern cartridge in 7mm that incorporates all the design aspects that make it consistent, balanced, efficient and most of all, accurate. It does this all while having the dimensions, tolerances, and standards SAAMI approved. This is important because now all the rifle builders can manufacture a rifle that interfaces perfectly with factory loaded ammunition, providing accuracy and long-range performance that previously required a custom-built rifle or a special handload.

In developing a cartridge, Hornady take a systematic approach to identify what problems exist and how to solve them. With other 7mm cartridges on the market, they were all plagued by similar problems: too slow of a SAAMI twist rate to appropriately stabilize modern, low drag bullets and a restrictive overall length, which shoved much of the bullet deep into the case. There are a few older designs that also suffered from loose chamber geometry, which can degrade accuracy. Couple this with some case designs that are a bit too overbore, and you have a 7mm cartridge selection that leaves much to be desired.

For the 7mm PRC development, we first selected what bullets we were targeting – our lowest drag, highest BC bullets and selected a twist rate that was commensurate. We then designed a chamber, throat, and freebore around those bullets and identified what muzzle velocity was most appropriate. After selecting a target muzzle velocity, we designed a cartridge case that would achieve that velocity using todays modern, temperature stable, magnum speed powder.

The result is an efficient case design, with proper chamber geometry, that will lend itself to the kind of ‘out of the box accuracy’ that our cartridge designs are known for. It has the correct twist rate for today’s long-range bullets, it offers substantial recoil reduction compared to other, more overbore 7mm cartridges on the market, and it does this without sacrificing any long-range shooting capability.

We are proud to release the 7mm PRC. It really rounds out the family of products that wear the ‘Precision Rifle Cartridge’ name. We truly believe this cartridge will quickly become a customer favorite and is appropriate for all North American big game. Whether you’re hunting whitetails in the east or you’re a western hunter pursuing elk in the mountains or shooting an ELR match – the 7mm PRC provides you confidence and accuracy at all practical ranges.”

Thanks to Hornady for providing this insight into their new cartridge. Check out our 7mm PRC-chambered products here.

The Ranger 22

New for 2020

Jan 20, 2020 | Christensen Arms

The NEW Ranger 22 brings a widely anticipated rimfire option back to the Christensen Arms line-up. Far beyond the bounds of an average plinking gun, this new firearm delivers the top-tier performance expected from Christensen Arms in an advanced .22 caliber firearm. The lightweight bolt-action platform is built for precision and easily adapts to all challenges, big or small.

The Ranger 22 begins as a precision machined aluminum receiver that features dual opposing steel locking lugs. The action is fitted to a Christensen Arms Carbon Fiber Tension Rimfire Barrel with a 22 LR Bentz match chamber to ensure superior accuracy and performance. Then the threaded muzzle is paired with a thread protector, and the same adjustable match-grade trigger used in our centerfire rifles is installed alongside our standard bolt-knob. Even better—the rifle utilizes standard Ruger® 10/22 magazines.

When the barreled action is mounted into a Carbon Fiber Composite Rimfire Stock, it gains a number of additional features. The palm hook assists a shooter in establishing a solid seat against their shoulder, while palm swell and angled grip help secure a stable platform wherever it may be needed. Offered in two distinct styles—the Ranger 22 is available in our classic Black with Gray Webbing finish as well as a new Tan with Black Webbing option.

The Ranger 22 is priced at $795 and is available chambered in 22 LR with an 18 inch barrel. Once complete, the firearm weighs in starting at 5.1 pounds and is backed by a Sub-MOA at 50 Yards Accuracy Guarantee. We take great pride in the products that we produce, and if we put our name on it, we’ll stand behind it. As with all of our rifles, the Ranger 22 is built here in the USA and is available to order from any Christensen Arms dealer.

6mm Creedmoor Offerings

New for Fall

Sept 30, 2019 | Christensen Arms

We’re committed to staying on the leading edge of innovation. With that in mind, we have introduced 6mm Creedmoor offerings to a number of our bolt-action rifles. A relatively new cartridge—the round has quickly become a favorite among competition shooters and hunters alike.

The 6mm Creedmoor was originally developed for long range precision shooting. A result of necking-down the 6.5 Creedmoor case to fit a 6mm bullet, the short-action cartridge is known for speed and limited recoil. Already widely adopted in competitive shooting circles, 6mm Creedmoor is also an excellent choice for medium sized game.

The Christensen Arms firearms now offered in 6mm Creedmoor include our Modern Precision Rifle, BA Tactical, and TFM. All three models are currently available to order through any Christensen Arms dealer.

Aug 26, 2019 | Christensen Arms

The right foundation matters. The Christensen Arms Modern Precision Rifle Chassis is the same ultra-lightweight adjustable system found on the Modern Precision Rifle now offered as an individual component. Born of our obsession with carbon fiber and brought up by hand in the USA the platform delivers effortless form and function—all weighing less than 3 and a half pounds.

The Mesa Long Range

8.9 - 9.9 LBS

Jul 29, 2019 | Christensen Arms

Our Mesa Long Range was designed for dedicated precision shooters and long range hunters. The next evolution of our traditional stainless steel barreled line—the rifle provides a sturdy and ergonomic platform guaranteed to perform. Whether your ambitions play out on the shooting range or on a dream hunt, the Mesa Long Range can help you beat the distance.

The rifle begins with a #5 medium palma contour barrel precision CNC machined from 416 stainless steel. The heavy profile component is then threaded and matched with one of our removable seamless side-baffle style muzzle brakes. Once the barrel is installed on the action the parts are finished with either our Tungsten or Burnt Bronze Cerakote for a compelling look and added protection from the elements.

The barreled action is then paired with one of our long range carbon fiber composite stocks.  The gunstock is created by laying up a carbon fiber and fiberglass shell and filling the structure. Features include a vertical palm grip, flared forend, adjustable length of pull and cheek rest, as well as two sling studs: one front and one rear. The original Mesa Long Range is offered in a black with gray webbing gunstock, while the Mesa Long Range in Bronze is matched with a green with black and tan version.

Bedding consists of a spot-bedded recoil lug in conjointment with dual Invar pillars. The Mesa Long Range also includes an adjustable match-grade trigger and an oversized tactical bolt knob to complete the Black Nitride finished bolt. Based on the Remington 700 footprint, the rifle is compatible with most regular Remington 700 mounting systems and accessories.

The Mesa Long Range is currently offered in eight chamberings with barrel lengths ranging from 24 to 27 inches. The rifle weighs in between 8.9 and 9.9 lbs and is backed by the Christensen Arms Sub-MOA guarantee. Hand built in the USA, the Mesa Long Range is available to order from any Christensen Arms dealer.
