Most Popular Rifle Chamberings

A Review of the Past 12 Months

April 10, 2018 | Product

Choosing a Christensen Arms rifle is often the easy part. Selecting the round or caliber that is best suited for your needs can sometimes present a larger challenge. If you’re on the fence, or just curious to know what other people hunt and hit the range with, we’ve put together a quick guide outlining the top 5 most popular bolt-action rifle chamberings we’ve sold over the past year. Don’t fret—whether you choose to follow the crowd or opt for something less conventional you’re still shooting a Christensen Arms firearm.

Top 5 Calibers

Few will be surprised that 6.5 Creedmoor (6.5 CRDMR) leads the list in 2018. This highly versatile do-anything cartridge has a well-deserved reputation for long-range accuracy on the range and a broad array of hunting applications. The 6.5 Creedmoor is a lightweight short-action round that produces less recoil than other popular chamberings. Shooters can generally expect a relatively long barrel life and common availability of ammunition. For hunting, 6.5 Creedmoor is suitable for most game smaller than elk or moose.

Generations of Americans have favored the .300 Winchester Magnum (300 WIN MAG) as an all-around hunting and target shooting cartridge. It certainly isn’t a new long-action chambering, but has earned its keep with serious long-range performance that delivers hard hitting shots without the recoil of larger rounds. If you’re only going to ever hunt with one rifle this might be the chambering for you. This cartridge is powerful enough to hunt nearly any animal found in North America, but it is particularly popular for elk, moose, and bighorn sheep.

Those who choose to shoot .338 Lapua Magnum (338 LAPUA) are looking for the largest and most powerful long-range round they can get. This long-action chambering will deliver lethal shots far and fast, although it packs a punch at both ends. Ammunition is often slightly more expensive and less common than other popular chamberings. Shooters can expect to see a barrel life similar to the .300 Winchester Magnum. The .338 Lapua Magnum is capable of hunting most large animals.

Another traditional cartridge, the .308 Winchester (308 WIN) has achieved notable recognition as a highly versatile short-action chambering. A firearm chambered in .308 Winchester will not consistently achieve the same long-range performance as 6.5 Creedmoor, but will likely experience a longer barrel life. As one of the most popular hunting cartridges of all time, ammunition is widely available for this chambering. The .308 Winchester is well suited for most medium to large sized game including elk and moose.

The 7mm Remington Magnum (7MM REM MAG) is another tried and true round that has stood the test of time. Similar in size to the .300 Winchester Magnum, this long-action chambering is capable of achieving slightly longer distances with less recoil. However, it lacks some of the knock-down power .300 Winchester Magnum is known for. Barrel life will generally also be comparable to .300 Winchester Magnum. Hunters will find the 7mm Remington Magnum suitable for deer, sheep, elk, and some larger game.

Show Season 2018

It's SHOW Time

Feb 5, 2018 | Events

Show season is upon us. The few months of the year when passionate hunters and shooters momentarily step away from the great outdoors to convene in various convention halls across the country. Every show is different, but they all offer a chance to chat with professionals, handle products, and brush shoulders with the vast network of people who dedicate themselves to this industry. They remind us how incredible it is to continue to be a part of one of our nation’s oldest traditions.

As our brand has grown over the past two decades, we have been proud to shake more hands and put more firearms on display than ever before at every show. We’ve incorporated the best of what we’re made of into our products, but the shooters who have recognized the difference our technology and craftsmanship has made have propelled us from a small-town dream and a folding table in the basement to center-stage as one of the fastest growing companies in the industry.

We’re still an American-made small business at heart, no matter how many guns we build a year. We pride ourselves on our customer service, our hardworking sales team, and the passion all of our employees bring to their jobs. Our success has been a product of our people and our vision to put a product on every local gun store shelf that stands alone.

This show season we invite you to experience a little bit of what we’ve accomplished. Whether you dropped by at the Dallas Safari Club Convention, SHOT Show, Safari Club International, or are planning to visit at the NRA Annual Exhibits this year we’d be glad to shake your hand and show you what’s new and coming next. If our team can’t make it to your local show, one of our retailers be more than happy to do the same:

New Calibers for 2018

The Modern Precision Rifle: New Calibers

Jan 16, 2018 | Product

To kick off 2018, we’re excited to announce the expansion of our wildly popular Modern Precision Rifle platform. When we started, we wanted to build a bolt-action rifle that could take on anything. We began with one of our legendary carbon fiber barrels to insure the best shooting experience and built our 100% proprietary chassis around it. We threw out the book on traditional folding stocks and developed our new MAGNELOCK™ system for a simple transition. We went back to carbon fiber for the rest, with a custom free-floating handguard, adjustable comb and length of pull, and finished the whole thing off with a flat match-grade trigger.

The Modern Precision Rifle incorporates the very best of our 20 years of carbon fiber and custom firearms experience. As with all Christensen Arms products, it not only has to function properly but it also has to look good doing it. Every detail was examined down to the smallest components to insure that the product provides effortless form and function. The Modern Precision Rifle is designed to impress, and backed by the Christensen Arms Sub-MOA Guarantee.

Following the success of the initial chamberings, long-action calibers (and an additional short-action offering) are now available in the Modern Precision Rifle so you can take the adventure even further. The Modern Precision Rifle is now offered in 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, .308 Winchester, .300 Winchester Magnum, .300 Norma Magnum, and .338 Lapua Magnum. All calibers are available to order through any Christensen Arms dealer.

The Mesa in Bronze

The Mesa in Bronze

Dec 18, 2017 | Product

It’s been a year since we launched the Mesa, our premium yet accessible steel-barreled hunting rifle. Since that launch you’ve filled our inboxes and phone lines with some of our favorite hunt stories, big and small. We’re incredibly proud to have been a part of so many spectacular feats, and one-of-a-kind experiences.

To celebrate the success of the Mesa, we’re launching an additional look. Beginning in 2018 our Mesa rifle will also be available in a new Bronze color. The elements are still the same as the original Mesa: featherlight contour, stainless steel barrel with a removable seamless radial brake, and a carbon fiber composite stock. It’s the same gun with a new look. The Burnt Bronze Cerakote finish, signature Christensen Arms green stock with our black and tan webbing, and a black match-grade trigger, make it a gun crafted to stand out.

Weighing in under 7 pounds, we built the Mesa for the backcountry. From trophy elk to the plains of Africa, it certainly hasn’t disappointed. It’s no secret that Christensen Arms owners are often envied, and rarely outmatched. The Mesa was designed to hunt the world over, backed by our Christensen Arms Sub-MOA Guarantee.

We’re launching the Mesa in Bronze with a continued dedication to building some of the finest firearms available. We manufacture all of our firearms here in the United States, carefully mastering every detail and component. No matter which of our guns you take to task, you can be confident you’re shooting one of the very best. We wouldn’t settle for anything less.

Triggers & Tread

Triggers & Tread

Triggers & Tread

Oct 23, 2017 | Events

To kick off the release of our new Modern Precision Rifle, we needed a backdrop as impressive as the gun itself. While we may have spent a few years carefully designing every element of our new bolt-action chassis rifle, nature has carved the Moab landscape over a few million. It’s a sight to behold, whether viewed through a Jeep window or the lens of your optic.

The invites for our Triggers & Tread event had gone out weeks before, although the guests didn’t quite know all of what they would be getting into. The rifle was still completely under wraps at that time. Luckily, no self-respecting outdoorsman can refuse a chance to put wheels down in the Moab desert. They packed their bags, brushed off their shooting gear, and hit the road to join us in Utah.

The guest list featured some of our top clients as well as favorite friends and writers who have made much of the Christensen Arms success possible. Folks from California to the East Coast. They would be some of the very first to know about our Modern Precision Rifle, and earning their stamp of approval meant a lot to us. These people take their firearms seriously, and they wouldn’t be shy about putting our new rifle to the test.

We didn’t take them to just any range. We built the Modern Precision Rifle for adventure, and it’s ability to keep up across a diverse number of landscapes and challenges is part of what makes it such an impressive gun. The dirt track wound in for miles through canyons, across streams, and up cliffsides. Corners were tight, but the view around every bend was well worth the trouble.

We aren’t the kind of people who take shooting lightly. We arrived at a secluded ranch deep in the hills of Moab with enough steel (lined out to 1000 yards) and ammo to put all of our guns through their paces. Christensen Arms firearms are built to go the distance and these folks got the message reaching out to touch the targets, again and again. The steel rang for hours, trigger pull after trigger pull, shot after shot. Eventually, when all the ammo was spent and the sun was setting, we hit the trails again.

Events like this one remind us why we work long hours and truly dedicate ourselves to the guns that we build. No matter where in the industry we come from, or what coast or continent we may call home, we are all brought together by a great passion for the outdoors. We hope that our products inspire others to hit the road less traveled too, whether for the first time or with seasoned experience. And if that requires renting a Jeep, we recommend you get the insurance.

See you out there.
