Bolt-Action Rifles—16, 20, and 22 Inch Barrels

Bolt-Action Rifles

May 29, 2019 | Christensen Arms

There are many reasons you may choose to carry a shorter barrel into the field. Plenty of hunters and shooters appreciate the lighter and more compact format, allowing for easier maneuverability in dense woods and tight quarters. Shorter barrels do generally mean less velocity—but since the barrel is often the heaviest component of any rifle losing a few inches may be worth sacrificing ballistic performance for some users. Smaller firearms can be easier to pack, move, and scale to new heights with. Christensen Arms offers a number of bolt-action rifles in 16 inch, 20 inch, and 22 inch options:

16 INCH BARRELS

The shortest barrel length we offer, our 16 inch barrels are for those looking to shed everything possible. The Modern Precision Rifle, our BA Tactical, and the TFM all have 16 inch options in 308 Winchester. Those who prefer 6.5 Creedmoor can pick up the same length in the BA Tactical and TFM, and 233 Remington is also available for our Modern Precision Rifle and BA Tactical. Mostly tactical style offerings, our 16 inch barrels are particularly well suited for shooting suppressed.

20 INCH BARRELS

Our 20 inch barrels are the shortest available on most of our traditional hunting rifles. The Ridgeline and the Traverse both have 20 inch options in 6.5 Creedmoor and 308 Winchester, and there are additional 450 Bushmaster options for the Ridgeline and Mesa. Tactical shooters are also covered, since we offer 20 inch barrels in 308 Winchester for our Modern Precision Rifle, BA Tactical, and TFM rifles as well. The Modern Precision Rifle carries one more 20 inch offering in 223 Remington.

22 INCH BARRELS

Worried about trimming too much? Look no further than a 22 inch barrel. Our compact Mesa rifle champions the category with offerings in 6.5 Creedmoor, 7MM-08 Remington, and 308 Winchester. On the tactical side the Modern Precision Rifle has a 22 inch 6.5 Creedmoor option, while our BA Tactical rounds out the group with a 223 Remington offering.

The ELR

7.5 - 8.4 LBS

May 6, 2019 | Christensen Arms

Whether you’re a dedicated long-range hunter or a novice—our ELR rifle is made for those who chase distant targets. Long-range hunting is a demanding sport that is part skill and part equipment, requiring shooters to push themselves to extremes. Like all firearms designed specifically for distance applications the ELR is larger and heavier than our other alternatives, but what it lacks in portability it delivers in performance at extended ranges.

Every ELR rifle is hand built in our Utah factory. The receiver is machined from 416R Stainless Steel and features an integral 20 MOA rail to provide additional rigidity and support for optic systems. The rifle’s target contour Christensen Arms Carbon Fiber Barrel is precision drilled, button rifled, and turned down to an exceptionally slim profile before being wrapped in our proprietary aerospace grade carbon fiber composite to ensure superior accuracy and performance. The barreled action is completed with an adjustable match grade trigger, one of our Titanium Side-Baffle Muzzle Brakes, and an enlarged bolt-knob.

The firearm is then spot bedded into one of our ELR Carbon Fiber Composite Stocks. This long-range gunstock has a vertical grip with a palm swell and modified beavertail forearm to help secure a stable platform wherever it may be needed. The length of pull and comb height are adjustable in fixed quarter-inch increments with Stock Spacers. For additional fitting, the butt height can also be modified. The gunstock features dual front sling studs and a single rear sling stud. Five flush cup mounts are located throughout: on the forearm, the grip, and the rear of the gunstock. As a classic Christensen Arms firearm the ELR is offered in our standard Black with Gray Webbing finish.

The ELR is currently available in fourteen chamberings with barrel lengths ranging from 26 to 27 inches. Once complete, the rifle weighs between 7.5 and 8.4 lbs and is backed by a Sub-MOA guarantee. We take great pride in the products that we produce, and if we put our name on it, we’ll stand behind it. As with all of our firearms, the ELR available to order from any Christensen Arms dealer.

While we’re certainly known for our American-built firearms, our components and accessories are also manufactured in-house or carefully sourced to meet the same strict standards we require for any Christensen Arms product. Whether you’re looking for additional mounting equipment, muzzle devices, or storage accessories, we’ve got you covered with some of our best selling products:

PICATINNY RAILS

All of our picatinny rail components are precision machined from aluminum and feature a black anodized finish for durability and performance. Our One Piece Scope Base is compatible with most standard Remington 700 style actions. It fits our Mesa, Mesa Long Range, and Ridgeline rifles. The base is offered in 0 MOA or 20 MOA versions and is shipped with the necessary screws for installation.

If you’re looking to mount additional accessories the 4” Bottom Picatinny Rail is designed to attach to the forward sling stud location on rifles. It measures 4 inches in overall length, and features an integrated sling mount. Own a Modern Precision Rifle? Our Monopod Rail was purpose-built for the chassis rifle and mounts directly to the stock. Standard installation screws are also included.

MUZZLE DEVICES

Our muzzle brakes are designed to reduce recoil felt by a shooter and to control the muzzle rise of a rifle by redirecting the propellant gases created when firing a shot. The Radial Brake is a 360° brake designed for hunting which reduces felt recoil by redirecting gases through a number of small ports distributed in all directions. The brake is offered in Stainless Steel or Titanium.

Tactical shooters may prefer our Side-Baffle Brake instead—featuring four large side ports to reduce felt recoil and four threaded top ports to dial in muzzle rise. Shipped with a crush washer to ensure proper indexing, the brake is offered in both Stainless Steel or Titanium as well as a Black Nitride option.

FIREARM CASES

It also features oversized zippers for durability, two front zippered pockets for additional storage, and an adjustable padded sling. The main compartment offers a barrel pocket for added protection and straps to secure a rifle.

Our MSR Rifle Case features five velcro closure magazine pockets and is large enough to accommodate optics as well. It has an internal barrel tip pocket, carrying handles, and an adjustable padded shoulder strap. Inside the 1911 Carry Case a hook and loop-backed panel allows for easy positioning when securing the adjustable holster and double pistol magazine pouch to suit your needs. The Mesa

The Mesa

6.5 - 7.3 LBS

Apr 8, 2019 | Christensen Arms

A premium quality lightweight hunting rifle offered at an accessible price, the Mesa is a triumph in traditional steel. The firearm’s compact frame and lightweight features make it the perfect choice to carry deep into the backcountry. Whether your needs are small predator or big game there is nothing primitive about our entry level hunting rifle.

The Mesa begins with a featherlight contour barrel (#1, #3, or #4 depending on the chambering of the firearm) precision CNC machined from 416 stainless steel. This creates a sleek component that won’t weigh the rifle down. The barrel is then threaded and matched with one of our removable seamless radial style muzzle brakes. Once the barrel is installed on the action the parts are finished with either a Tungsten or Burnt Bronze Cerakote for a compelling look and added protection from the elements.

After finishing, the barreled action is then paired with one of our Carbon Fiber Composite Sporter Stocks built with a proprietary carbon fiber and fiberglass composite. The stocks are cured before being sanded and refined throughout the process. Bedding consists of a spot-bedded recoil lug in conjointment with dual Invar pillars. The original Mesa is offered in a black with gray webbing gunstock, while the Mesa in Bronze is matched with a green with black and tan webbed version.

Standard features also include an adjustable match-grade trigger and two sling studs, one front and one rear. A compact bolt knob completes the Black Nitride finished bolt. Based on the Remington 700 footprint, the Mesa is compatible with most regular Remington 700 mounting systems and accessories.

The Mesa is currently offered in nine chamberings with barrel lengths ranging from 20 to 26 inches. Select short-action chamberings are available in a left-hand configuration. The rifle weighs in between 6.5 and 7.3 lbs and is backed by a Sub-MOA guarantee. Hand built in the USA, the Mesa is available to order from any Christensen Arms dealer.

The TFM

The TFM

7.3 - 7.8 LBS

Mar 4, 2019 | Christensen Arms

Those who aspire to own our TFM are in search of something truly specialized. Driven by our decades of carbon fiber and custom firearms experience, the rifle is a unique product of our obsession with composite materials and the advantage they bring to a tactical long-range platform. For shooters who refuse to settle for anything less than the very best, the TFM stands in a league of its own.

The build begins with a Christensen Arms Carbon Fiber Barrel. The barrel is machined from a 416R stainless steel bar before being precision drilled, button rifled, turned down to an exceptionally slim profile, and wrapped in our proprietary aerospace grade carbon fiber composite originally developed for aircraft. This process creates a target contour barrel with a match chamber that performs at or above the standards associated with a traditional barrel, without the weight of additional steel. After the barrel is threaded, one of our Titanium Side-Baffle Brakes is added and properly timed.

Once finished, the barrel is combined with one of our purpose-built TFM actions. The action includes a 20 MOA integral rail to provide additional rigidity and support, is precision machined from 416R stainless steel, and is completed with a Black Nitride™ finish for a sleek look. The various components are blueprinted with hand-lapped lugs and paired with a polished two tone bolt while an adjustable match-grade trigger and our enlarged bolt knob are installed.

The firearm is then equipped with one of our TFM Aerograde Carbon Fiber Stocks in a natural carbon fiber finish. These gunstocks are hand laid at our facility by trained composite technicians to ensure an exceptionally high quality stock with the ultimate strength-to-weight ratio. The monocoque stocks are finished with full receiver glass bedding and carbon fiber pillars.

The TFM’s feature driven gunstock is one of the most complex models we build. The palm hook assists a shooter in establishing a solid seat against their shoulder, while the oversized vertical grip with palm swell and specialized flat forearm help secure a stable platform that provides the support needed for long-range shots. Both the comb height and length of pull are fully adjustable with the simple rotation of a thumb wheel. Accessories include a forend picatinny rail with integrated sling stud, and a single rear sling stud.

The rifle is finished with a detachable box magazine (compatible with all AICS magazines) which features an extended tactical mag release for ease of use. The barrel is free-floated to ensure superior accuracy and performance. All of these components, techniques, and finishes produce a unique firearm that is truly unlike any other in the long-range tactical domain. The result is striking—and those who choose to carry it turn heads in every contest.

The TFM weighs between 7.3 and and 7.8 pounds, with barrel lengths ranging from 16 to 27 inches, and is backed by a ½ MOA guarantee. It is hand-built in the USA and is available to order from any Christensen Arms dealer. Current chamberings include 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, 308 Winchester, 300 Winchester Magnum, 338 Lapua Magnum, 300 Norma Magnum, 300 PRC, 338 Norma Magnum.

The Modern Precision Rifle in Desert Brown

New for 2019

Jan 7, 2019 | Christensen Arms

We’re pleased to announce another new addition to our 2019 line-up: the Modern Precision Rifle is now offered in a Desert Brown anodized chassis. This color option provides shooters with an alternative to the standard Black while maintaining the durability and longevity of an anodized finish.

When we built the first Modern Precision Rifle, we wanted to engineer a bolt-action firearm that could go the distance and take on complex challenges without the weight or bulk associated with most chassis rifles. As with all Christensen Arms products, it not only had to function properly but it also had to look good doing it. Every detail was examined down to the smallest components to insure that the rifle delivered effortless form and function. The end result speaks for itself:

The Modern Precision Rifle is an ultra-lightweight chassis rifle designed to impress and built in the USA. Beyond the folding stock the complete package is well equipped with a target contour Christensen Arms carbon fiber barrel, carbon fiber comb, free-floating carbon fiber handguard, and 20 MOA rail. The action and stainless steel side-baffle muzzle brake are finished in Black Nitride™ for a sleek look. More than just Desert Brown, we’re also rolling out an additional chambering. The Modern Precision Rifle will now also include .223 Remington options in both 16” and 20” barrels. Other existing chamberings include 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, .308 Winchester, .300 Winchester Magnum, .300 Norma Magnum, and .338 Lapua Magnum. All chamberings (and colors) are available to order through any Christensen Arms dealer.
